Community Café and Support Hub

Lower Green Community Centre is a warm and welcoming space, where local residents can connect, take part in activities and access help and support when needed.

Helping our community

At Lower Green Community Centre, we run several community projects including a weekly Advice Café, Community Fridge, Emergency Food Store and Bike Project.

We also have a small play area for 0-3 year olds, and hold regular workshops and events to help with cost of living pressures and support general health and wellbeing.

Advice Café

We work with a number of local organisations to provide specialist support for local residents.

This could be helping households impacted by rising living costs, providing debt advice, supporting people at risk of fuel poverty, or making referrals to ensure people can access the help they need.

The friendly Advice Café runs every Wednesday from 11am to 3pm and is open to residents from Lower Green and the surrounding areas.

Energy Advice

Our Energy Advice Service supports local households at risk of fuel poverty. It also helps people who feel left behind due to a lack of digital skills.

Tailored advice and support is available through group workshops and one-to-one support.

People can get practical tips for reducing their energy use, advice on saving money on bills, and find out about other resources available, such as the Priority Services Register and Social Tariffs.

Helping our environment

Community Fridge

Our Community Fridge is open to everyone in our local area - helping people to save money on food bills and reducing the environmental impact of food waste.

Every year, the UK throws away around 6.4 million tonnes of food. On average, our Community Fridge prevents over half a tonne of food from going to waste every month!

Full of nutritious and tasty food, our Community Fridge is open throughout the week to everyone who visits the Community Centre.

Bike Project

We’re on a mission to promote the health benefits of cycling and encourage people to hop on a bike when other transport options are not available.

Research has shown that cycling can improve health, reduce stress and empower people in other areas of their lives.

To enable more local people to start cycling, we recycle second hand and unloved bikes and give them back to the community. We also show people how to maintain and repair bikes themselves.

Bridging the gap

Emergency Food Store

Anyone who is struggling to make ends meet can access our emergency food store.

People can pick up essentials to help bridge the gap when they can’t access a foodbank immediately, or need a bit of extra support until pay day.

The Beehive Café

Community Café

Our Beehive Community Café offers affordable meals and snacks with a focus on supporting the community and reducing food waste.

Using surplus food provided by local supermarkets and the FareShare Charity, we offer low-cost, delicious food for people who visit the Centre.

‘Pay it forward’ scheme

Café customers can also buy a ‘suspended’ hot meal or drink - paying it forward so someone else can enjoy it later.

This popular scheme ensures that everyone who visits the café can get a meal or drink, whether they’re going through a difficult time, waiting for payday, or have simply lost their wallet.
